What Makes Cullman Different
The older housing near downtown Cullman carries the problems any pre-war stock does: original wiring that has been extended rather than replaced, plaster over questionable framing, and additions that were built to whatever standard applied at the time. These houses are frequently well built and well worth buying — but you need to know what has been modified and how.
Out from town, the picture changes to newer builds on larger lots, farm properties, and homes on private wells. Metal roofing is far more common here than in Birmingham, and it fails differently — fastener backout, sealant failure at penetrations, and panel oil-canning rather than shingle wear.
